Flute, Harp and Piano Lessons

Lisa Craig Fenwick has maintained an ongoing private music studio since 1985 and has taught students of all ages and levels.  She was on the flute faculty at the Community School of Music and Arts in Ithaca for over 23 years and also has taught flute at the State University of New York at Cortland. She currently teaches flute, harp and piano at Namaste Montessori School. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Boston University's School of Fine Arts. She started, administered and taught Kindermusik of Ithaca for more than 14 years. (Kindermusik is an early childhood music and movement program for birth-age 7) She also taught Kindermusik outreach programs on an ongoing basis at Ithaca Montessori School, Kendal of Ithaca, Lansing Drop-In Center and Spencer Library.

Lisa is also a serious harpist and harp teacher, both on pedal and lever harp. You can often find her performing at recitals and numerous weddings and private functions throughout the region. In addition to her solo harp work Lisa plays in the duo Enchantment with harpist and singer Melissa Collins. Lisa plays both flute and harp in this duo which performs music for harp duo, harp and flute as well as harp and voice. Lisa was also formerly a member of Harps on Susquehanna Harp Ensemble and has played in several flute ensembles as well as several orchestras around the area.

Lisa teaches piano to beginners through very late intermediates. She has taught piano since the early 1990's and has many successful piano students of all ages. She prides herself on being patient and is always looking for a new way to explain something, understanding not every example or explanation works for every student.  She is equally comfortable with adults, teenagers, four and five years olds and everyone in between.

Lisa is a huge proponent of early childhood music and its long term benefits. "My goals with my teaching are to help all of my students develop a life long love of music while teaching great technical and practice skills." Lisa is well versed in the Suzuki method and completed the first Every Child Can Suzuki Training Program.

Lisa completed training classes for the national Music, Healing and Transition Program to learn how to play music at bedside for those who are ill. Before starting Kindermusik of Ithaca, Lisa served as Executive Director for both the Community School of Music in Ithaca, NY and the Tioga County Council on the Arts in Owego, New York.

Lisa encourages potential students to come for a one time lesson to get a sense of her teaching style. "I truly love music and I truly love to teach. Once you come for a lesson you will feel the energy and excitement and hopefully go home ready to practice and come back for another lesson."
