Information Regarding Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies

Prelude Music:  Unless you want otherwise, I will be ready to play 25 minutes before ceremony start time and will begin to play appropriate prelude music when I see guests begin to arrive. This is usually about 20 minutes before ceremony start time. I usually select the music for this portion but am happy to work in requests from my repertoire.

Wedding Party Processional: This is the musical selection that the wedding party will enter with.

Bride's or Your Beloved's Processional: This is the music that the bride or your beloved will enter with.

Sometimes there is other music during the ceremony and sometimes there is not. Appropriate places for music within the ceremony might be during a candle-lighting, sand ceremony or communion.

Recessional: This joyous piece of music will see the couple and wedding party down the aisle at the conclusion of the ceremony.

If you are having a religious ceremony, any music within the ceremony itself such as for a communion should be approved by the person performing the ceremony, but I can suggest pieces that are appropriate.

After the recessional is played, I will play a bit more music to see people out of the space.  Usually this is about 10 or so minutes; sometimes longer if  there is to be a receiving line within hearing distance.

I have sound clips of some of my favorite ceremony music here. You can select or you can have me select.  You do not need to select any other music unless you have a request. If you do not see what you are looking for on my repertoire list feel free to inquire.

Contact me for a price quote.  My quote will be based upon solo harp.  Once you have made the decision to hire me, I will require a non-refundable $200 deposit to hold the date.  The balance is due 2 weeks before the event.

Once you have decided to hire me, I will send you a list of questions of things I need to know for the ceremony. If needed we can follow this up with a phone conversation. I will then send a written letter of confirmation spelling out my understanding of the details including musical cues.  I do not go to the rehearsal.

If you are having me play for the ceremony consider getting a quote for me for cocktail or dinner hour as well. If the reception is in the same location or nearby and there is not a huge break between the events I can offer a significant reduction in my usual background music fees, as I am already there. I have a very large and diverse repertoire. For cocktail hour I tend to play a wide variety of music that includes a lot of popular music as well as classical and Celtic.

Amplification

Amplification is available for all of my harps but in many cases is not needed.  I have a battery-powered amplifier that I use outside, and an electric amplifier that I use for inside functions when power is available.

Stairs

Pedal harps and steps do not mix well.  Space needs to be handicapped accessible so that I can roll the harp.  I need to know ahead of time about any steps.  With the lever harp, the steps are not an issue.

Outside Weddings

I play outside often, but under no circumstances can I allow my harps to get wet, so I would need to discuss with you your rain plan for an outside wedding.  Ideally, the harp should be under some kind of shelter, as direct sunlight will harm the glues and finishes on these precious instruments.  Many wedding sites will provide a small tent or large umbrella for this purpose, or shade from a tree will sometimes work. Let's have a conversation about this as there are many ways to deal with this issue.

When playing outside, the harp needs to be on a relatively flat surface.  No hills, please!

What People Are Saying About Lisa

The following reviews are from Wedding Wire and there are more on the Wedding Wire site:

"Once I heard Lisa Fenwick play the harp I knew two things: 1. Decision made that I want a harp serenading my walk down the aisle 2. It needed to be Lisa."

"I live in Chicago and got married in Canandaigua, NY. Lisa was very accommodating the entire time - always would take calls, super responsive to emails and really narrowed down the best format for us. She is a great value and definitely provides much more worth. She was completely self-sufficient on the day - was ready to go when it was game time."

"One of the biggest compliments of our ceremony I have been getting was about the harpist. It was beautiful. She also stayed for the cocktail hour and played some contemporary hits which really added to the mood - Lisa also offered to learn a new song and add to her repertoire. She is very detailed and has a very impressive talent that she is wonderful at sharing. Cannot thank Lisa enough for adding a special touch to our day!"

"It was an absolute pleasure working with Lisa and I highly recommend her. She was professional and responsive and took great care in helping us choose musical pieces that would beautifully fit the ceremony and wedding day. 'We hired Lisa for my mother's 80th birthday party and it was perfect for the event. The music was beautiful, and not so loud that it was interrupting the party. It definitely added class and sophistication to our event, we would recommend her for any event."

"I hired Lisa to play during my wedding ceremony. It was a small group of only 50, and her beautiful music set the perfect intimate ambiance. I received so many complements on her performance. She was so easy to work with, and was very helpful in suggesting the music and the pace. My only regret is that, being the bride, I didn't get to hear her more! I would recommend her to everyone!"

"Lisa was absolutely wonderful. She is an incredibly gifted musician that played all of the music we asked for during the ceremony and blended perfectly into the background of our cocktail hour. During the ceremony, she played a song with one of our close friends, and organized a special rehearsal with him so the song would be perfect. I would highly recommend Lisa to any bride searching for elegant instrumental background music."
