Allying Control

Tape: 5609C20 "Lecture at Auditor's Conference"

The fact is that a person allies his control with things when he becomes anxious about his own ability to control.

Alliance of control is the third thing that happens after identification with an object and moving out of position.

The first thing that got him into difficulty, but it also got him into a game, was to identify himself with an object. The next thing that gave him difficulty was moving aside from a blow of sort against that object or a communication to the object. Then he had a problem about the object because he isn't occupying it [as locus of] central control.

Now he was already using the object to help him control others, so we get the third condition: He now has to have this object to control things because he isn't where he is. He is no longer where he is, so now he has to use the thing, and he also uses the engram of the blow. He is now allying his control.

The first thing, he identifies with an object. The second thing, he moves aside from his actual position and has a problem. And the third, allies his control with other factors in order to control things (to start, change, and stop things). So that gives you a process that works like this.

"Look around here and tell me something with which you could ally your control."

The only thing you are trying to do in processing is to get rid of obsessions and unknownesses, and bailing out of old games conditions. To give you an idea of this, let's say he belongs to your club. Now he has been some trouble to you. He scrambled up the last elections and so forth. And this club actually controls a certain political sector of some kind or another. He has allied his control with the club because he himself couldn't control. He will be upsetting to the club. He is using the club, the club doesn't you him.

You would think, offhand, that if you ran this out then he would immediately say, "Well, I don't need the club anymore, and I will now leave the club." No, this is not in actuality what happens. He is restored to the feeling of having a game, independently controls, and is capable of controlling things. He also now assists the club to control things. So the club is then richer to the degree that he is.

"Look around here and tell me something with which you could ally your control."

End Point

Run the process until a realization occurs, or an ability is regained.

These objective assist processes are excerpted and compiled from the works of L. Ron Hubbard as part of a study of the Briefing Course materials. They are made available here for the purpose of discussion on spirit-l. Spirit-l is a list intended for the discussion of the philosophical underpinnings of clearing philosophies and methods. Frequent topics include self-betterment processes that can be done alone or in a coprocessing setting. There are "fair use" considerations as the works these quotations are taken from are copyrighted. The actual owner of the copyrights seems to be in question, but it most certainly is not I. Therefore, these fair use excerpts are available for Spirit-l list subscribers to prepare for, and participate in, the on-line discussion. It is also for others who, although unable to participate in the discussion of Hubbard's work at this time (perhaps lacking email access or available time), would like to prepare for such discussion on the above thread topics in the future. Just as one can copy a chapter out of a book to teach a class, and even a whole book using a chapter for each class, separate supplementary manuals will facilitate the different on-line discussion topics.
