Almost immediately after I introduced myself to the MD lists, I received an invitation from Joan Flietas to write an essay for her pages on chronic childhood illnesses. I talked with her about it for a bit, explaining that I didn't think of what I had as a chronic illness or disease, and then wrote the essay.
This essay is aimed at a young reading audience, so I went easy on the vocabulary and syntax. The intent is to answer the question, "What was it like to grow up with a chronic illness?", or, "What was it like to grow up with a disability?".
