Support the VCA
There are a variety of ways to support the VCA's programs and facilities. Monetary donations are particularly needed to help pay for utilities, insurance, inspections, maintenance, postage, and so forth. However, if you prefer, donations can be targeted to support particular events or programs. Please consider helping to support the VCA in one or more of the following ways:
Refundable Bottle and Can Donations
Refundable bottles and cans are collected on an on-going basis. Donations can be left at any time in the bins by the front door of the Varna Community Center (943 Dryden Rd., NY Rte. 366, Ithaca NY). A VCA volunteer sorts donated bottles and cans and takes them to a redemption center for a refund. This is an easy way to support the VCA -- those nickle and dime refunds really add up over time!
Printer and Toner Cartridges
Used printer and toner cartridges are collected on an on-going basis. A VCA volunteer mails used cartridges to a collection center for a refund. Please place your donation in a plastic bag and leave it by the front door of the Varna Community Center (943 Dryden Rd., NY Rte. 366, Ithaca NY).
United Way Donations
If you make a United Way donation at your workplace, you can add the Varna Community Association, Inc. to your pledge card. Simply indicate the dollar amount that you want sent to the VCA. The local United Way office has the Varna Community Association's information on file and will complete the donation by sending a check to the VCA.
Volunteering
The VCA has no paid staff, so all activities and facilities are run by volunteers. This means, we need you! Here are a few of the ways that volunteers help out at the VCA:
- Help plan educational events
- Serve coffee at pancake breakfasts
- Write articles for the Varna Newsletter
- Supervise games at children's holiday events
- Be part of the clean up team after activities
- Oversee VCA policies and activities by serving on the Board of Directors
- Participate as a member of one of the VCA's committees
- Mow and trim grass at the Community Center
To inquire about current volunteer needs, please contact the volunteer coordinator.
Monetary Donations
Checks or cash donations are always welcome! Because the VCA has 501c3 status with the Internal Revenue Service, donations to the VCA can be taken as tax deductions on federal income tax returns. Checks should be made out to: Varna Community Association, Inc. and mailed to Varna Community Association, Inc., P.O. Box 4771, Ithaca NY 14852-4771. To request a receipt for your donation, contact the VCA treasurer
Newsletter sponsorship
The Varna Newsletter is published six times a year and mailed out to over 500 Varna residents and friends. Individuals or businesses that provide monetary support for the Newsletter are recognized and thanked in each issue. To learn more, contact the newsletter editor.
