Each plant is listed alphabetically by its botanical name (in italics) followed
by the cultivar name (in 'single quotes'). Common names are listed on the next line
as well for most. This is followed by an abbreviated line of plant information including:
- Plant Type
- A = Annual
- B = Biennial
- P = Perennial
- Cold Hardiness Zone for perennials and biennials
- Mature height in inches - this is an average that depends on general growing conditions.
- Spacing in inches - helpful in planning for mature sizes of young perennials, also an average.
- Light Preferences
- Season of Bloom (Perennials only)
1=plant type/2=Zone/3=height/4=spacing/5=light preferences/6=season of bloom (perennials only)

A Word about Latin Names
We have organized the plants loosely into categories and then, alphabetically using the botanical name
(in italics) followed by the variety or cultivar (in 'single quotes'). We think the use of latin
names eliminates the confusion that often acompanies the use of common names. May we suggest the use of
our index of common names. This will help if you only know a common name for a
particular plant.
