What is a pendulum?
A pendulum is one of the simplest and easiest forms of divination. It's a simple matter of yes/no questions being asked and answered.
Pendulums are one of the oldest methods for receiving guidance from your divine given higher self and the spirit world.
How do they work?
No one knows for sure how the pendulum works, but it is thought that the pendulum acts like a powerful antenna that responds
to electromagnetic energy waves that radiate from everything on earth, which includes thoughts and all living things.
Some say that the pendulum creates a bridge between the logical and intuitive parts of ones mind, while others
say that the pendulum connects them with their higher power.
Choosing your pendulum
Try different ones until you get one that feels good to you. Some pendulums will let you know that they "like" you and others won't do a thing.
Lay a line of pendulums down that you think you could work with. Lay them about 6 inches apart and run your outstretched hand over them
Be sure to keep your fingers together and do not touch the pendulums. I keep my hand approximately three to six inches above the pendulum.
If the pendulum is attracted to you, you could feel its energy in varying ways. There could be an exchange of heat or an electrical energy
surge between your hand and the pendulum. If there is not, don't worry.
If you are choosing your pendulum from an online site or a catalogue, don't be in a
hurry and trust your instincts.
By looking at and studying each pendulum you will instinctively feel which ones you are attracted to.
Be open minded and trust your instincts, you will choose correctly.
Owning your pendulum
Some people pick pendulums on looks alone, others pick them for the stone that the pendulum is made of. Either way it is important to "own" your
pendulum. Do this as soon as you get it home or after someone has used it. To "own" your pendulum you are simply telling it to pick up only your
energy.
There are several ways to do this. One way is to simply wash your hands with the pendulum in them (water is a great unifier). Keep your
pendulum in the palm of your hand while you are drying your hands. Gently breathe on it (breath is also another unifier). With your pendulum
still lying in your hand, cup your fingers over the pendulum. Place your opposite hand over the cupped hand. Let your energy infuse the
pendulum for a few moments.
Once your pendulum is owned by you, try not to let others use it as your pendulum will pick up their energies and may not work as well for
you the next time you go to use it. You will then have to do the owning process all over again.
Calibrating Your Pendulum
Now we must calibrate the pendulum. To calibrate simply means that you are going to find out what your yes and no directions are and to make sure
that the pendulum is working for you. To do this, hold it by the free end of the chain with your thumb and first finger so that the weighted end is loose.Let
the pendulum swing freely from the weighted end at a length of anywhere from eight inches to a foot below your thumb and finger. Make sure you keep it perfectly still. If you have trouble holding your arm steady, you can brace it with your other hand by holding your forearm just below the elbow. You can
also rest your pendulum arm on a support that still allows the pendulum to swing freely.
Many people place their free hand under the tip of the pendulum.
Cup your hand slightly and make sure the tip of the pendulum hangs over the center of the palm of your hand but does not touch the palm of the hand.
I usually keep it from two to three inches away.
Ask a simple "yes" question to which you already know the answer as yes, or just ask it to "show me yes". Keep your eye on the pendulum, and when it starts moving, note whether it goes side to side, forwards to backwards, or swings in a small or large circle.
This indicates your "yes" direction. Now, tell it to stop. After it stops, repeat the process with another yes question. The pendulum should move in the same direction. Tell it to stop. Remember to keep your hand perfectly still and let the pendulum do the work. Now, repeat the process, asking a question to which you know the answer is no, or simply tell it to "show me no". This will give you your "no" direction. Tell it to stop and repeat the process with another no question. The pendulum should move in the no direction. Tell it to stop.
It's a good idea to do this a few times with different questions, so you can get a feel for how your pendulum responds to you.
This process is called reaffirmation.
Remember to always start by asking the pendulum permission to ask it your questions. This is just common courteousness. All questions need to be phrased so that the answers are either a "yes" or a "no". If the pendulum cannot answer the question it usually will come to a standstill or may just hang there and jiggle a little. When this occurs, the answer to the question may not be available, you might not be centered or the subject matter is not appropriate at this time.
Pendulum history
The Hebrews, Egyptians, Persians, Etruscans, Druids, Greeks, Romans, Hindus, Chinese, Peruvians, and Native cultures used this form of divination.
Nostradamas, DaVinci Albert Einstein and many other notables also used pendulums. Another use for the pendulums is in the process called dowsing,
which is the act of finding water or metal in the ground.
*One of the most popular uses of a pendulum was to predict the sex of a baby in a pregnant woman. The pendulum would be held over the womb and if the pendulum swung back and forth, traditionally, the woman was thought to be carrying a boy. If it swung in a circle, the woman was carrying a girl.
*A French Catholic priest, Abbe' Mermet employed the use of pendulum divination very successfully during the early 1900s. He located water, minerals and missing people using maps. The Vatican hired him to locate several lost treasures. This was especially significant since Pope John XXII banned the use of pendulums during the 1320's, declaring the answers were coming directly from the devil.
*The pendulum is also used by some medical practitioners, including doctors, medical intuitives, chiropractors, reiki practitioners and nutritionists for making diagnoses as well as determining treatment.
