Bob
Madill -
Winegrower &
General Manager
Bob was part of
the team that founded Sheldrake Point in the spring of 1997. His background
includes over 20 years in international high tech marketing and sales,
as well as work within the wine industry in Ontario, Canada as a cellar
rat, a sales rep, a wine importer and wine judge (AWS & AWO qualified).
As an oenophile and passionate Pinot Noir fan, Bob’s travels
have taken him to many of the key winegrowing regions of the world.
Bob has been our GM since the spring of 1999.
As
GM Bob has overall operating responsibility for Sheldrake Point. As
Winegrower, he provides the strategic direction for our vineyard,
winery and wine products. A winegrower is much like an architect,
providing an overarching design that responds to viticultural and
winemaking opportunities and by working in collaboration with the
skilled and expert craftsmanship of David Wiemann, Vineyard Manager
and David Breeden, Winemaker. These are the key members of our winegrowing
team at Sheldrake Point.
Bob
is a co-founder and Chairman of the Finger Lakes Pinot Noir Alliance.
He is also Secretary of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, Treasurer of the
Finger Lakes Wine Alliance, and a member of the Seneca County Cornell
Cooperative Extension Board of Directors.
Jack
Carrington -
Chef
Having prepared
fine meals in restaurants from New York to New England, to New Hope
and New Jersey, Jack brings a new flair to the Sheldrake Point Café
menu of creative appetizers, tapas and tasty entrees. Jack's recipes
are designed to complement the Café 's fine collection of Sheldrake
Point and other New York State wines. Whether you are choosing from
our usual selections, or designing a custom event menu, Jack's talents
with fresh herbs and vegetables, and interesting preparations of meat,
fish and fowl will delight any taste and diet.
Dave
Weimann -
Vineyard Manager
With a background
including four years of grapevine management at Cornell's Geneva Agricultural
Experiment Station and two years of honeybee research in Ithaca, Dave's
love of our vineyard is second only to his own farm across the lake.
Dave and his vineyard crew take great pride tending the 40 acres of
vines and new plantings at Sheldrake Point Vineyards, while planning
and preparing for new acreage each spring.
Dave
Breeden -
Winemaker
With experience
developed in wineries throughout the Finger Lakes, Dave can always
be found in our winery or lab, gently and patiently tending to the
fermentation and aging of our wines, while caring for our tanks, barrels
and equipment. Armed with two degrees in chemistry and two in philosophy,
Dave not only brings us expertise in the wine lab and on the crush
pad, he also can be heard waxing poetic on the virtues of everything
from Plato's cave to contemporary third-party politics.

Kit
Kalfs -
Tasting Room Manager
While
working in a Finger Lakes winery tasting room, one often hears the
wistful remark that she or he would "love to have your job". Kit put
that thought into action, changed his career and moved to the Finger
Lakes in 2000. Since arriving at Sheldrake Point in 2001, he has designed
the Tasting Room/Gift Shop to be a destination to find unique local
& regional products, staffed by women and men with an abiding interest
in the wines & vineyards, natural beauty and quality of life that
make residing in the Finger Lakes so appealing.
Jan
Quarles -
Special Events Manager
Jan left the bustling
world of Madison Avenue marketing to return to her beloved farm on
the shores of Cayuga Lake, just north of Sheldrake Point, and we were
lucky enough to convince her that her promotional and managerial talents
would be ideal for our special events guests. Whether you are planning
a special gathering for 20 or an event for 200, Jan will work with
you to design a truly memorable experience.
Chuck
Tauck -
Managing Partner
Chuck comes to
Sheldrake from the travel industry where he and his family built a
company that has received awards and recognition as one of the leading
vacation tour companies in the world. Chuck was attracted to the Finger
Lakes wine industry during his graduate work at the Cornell Hotel
School and his background and energy in finance, management and systems
process has been instrumental in the organization and growth of our
company.
