In our groups quest for a "standard" scenario to play, we adopted (and slightly modified) the scenario developed for the Gen-Con 2000 Diskwars championship, as it covers up most holes, and seems to be pretty balanced. The scenario is as follows:
2 Players, 150 points.
Set up a center land disk, and each player sets up their staging area 18" from the center land, and equidistant from each other. Flip a coin to see who sets up, and moves, first. The first player sets up 9 disks wholly within 6" of their staging area. The second player then does the same. The first player to set up then moves first.
For reinforcements, at the start of each turn, you get to place up to 6 disks in play, also wholly within 6" of your staging area.
The scenario lasts for 7 turns. At the end of 7 turns, add up points for each of the following:
The player with the most points wins. In case of a tie, use points left in play as a tie breaker.
Our group modified this scenario slightly, in that we made it 7 turns instead of the original 6, because setting up and going first is usually pretty disadvantageous (and going first on the second turn is usually very advantageous), so by adding a 7th turn, we feel that the disadvantage of going first is balanced out a bit. We also play, locally, that the Doppleganger is a K'Ryth champion.
