Information and Referral Services
Do you have a question about mental health? Is the question too complicated or embarrassing for you to feel comfortable talking to someone about it? Do you know that you need information, but feel unsure about what questions to ask? The Information and Referral program is the first place to call for information on mental health issues. Across the country, Mental Health Associations offer general information on mental health issues - from definitions to payment information, from national resources to local support groups and practitioners. We welcome e-mail or calls from anyone who is looking for answers to their questions...or help in deciding which questions to ask. The Information and Referral program provides confidential information on options for dealing with mental health issues. These options range from self-help to treatment in a variety of settings. Information is also available on credentialling and professional development for mental health practitioners. The library of the Mental Health Association in Tompkins County is maintained under the direction of the Information and Referral program, as are information files containing pamphlets and other materials on a wide variety of subjects related to mental health. Finally, the Information and Referral program produces guides to local resources, The Guide to Mental Health Professionals and The Guide to Local Support Groups and Internet Resources, both in hard-copy form and on this site. As noted, the heart and soul of the Information and Referral program is the availability of confidential, unbiased information on resources for living with mental health issues. In accordance with our belief that informed choice is vital to the promotion of mental health, we work to give everyone who contacts us the tools to determine and follow their own best course. | |
