For Certificated Pilots

The East Hill Flying Club is a not-for-profit corporation on the Tompkins County Airport in Ithaca, NY. The club, which has been in operation for over 50 years, currently owns seven aircraft, from Cessna 152's to a low-time IFR Mooney 201. The MooneyEast Hill Flying Club also owns a complete hangar/classroom facility on the southwest side of the airport with a full kitchen and bathroom facilities as well as storage for all planes out of the weather. Club members benefit from the DUAT briefing and LaserGrade computer testing center, as well as the full IFR chart service and educational video library. A Precise Flight 135 computerized simulator at the club makes instrument training and recurrent proficiency less expensive and more effective.

The East Hill Flying Club is a government approved (Part 141) flight training facility and provides an FAA LaserGrade Testing Facility. The club offers top-quality instrument rating training, commercial pilot training, flight instructor and multi-engine training. The Club instructors have no charter responsibilities and offer flight instruction seven days a week in all licenses and ratings (single engine through ATP). East Hill employs a full-time manager who is also a pilot examiner for all FAA tests. An important advantage of Club membership is the insurance coverage through a major insurer. If you fly our Club planes you may find you do not need supplemental (and expensive) "renter's insurance." Club owner-members can fuel from the East Hill tank on the west ramp, saving about 50 cents a gallon on fuel costs. In addition to the IFR chart and terminal procedures, the club provides a full set of current facility directories and current NOTAMS publications.

Not Just Cheap Flying

The East Hill Flying Club is more than just a place to rent a plane. There are get-togethers, banquets, and events like the Father's Day Fly-In. Award presentationIt's also a place where people with similar and diverse interests can get together for "hangar flying" and plan future flights and trips (a popular one is a night flight along the Hudson River by NYC). The club's members span a wide spectrum of ages (from teens to Orville and Wilbur's buddies), occupations, interests, backgrounds, and flying experience - student, private, instrument, commercial, ATP (airline transport pilot), and flight instructors; from 1 hour of flight time to tens of thousands. There's more to the club than just a place to add flight hours to your logbook. In addition, the club hosts FAA Safety Seminars several times during the year.

Resources at East Hill Flying

Jim Lucente at work Jerry Friedman Don and Alan

Our mechanic of many years, Jim Lucente, has left for the warmer southern climate. Thanks for years of service Jim! We will miss jobs that can only be accomplished by "PFM" and the "Italian Torque Wrench!"

So we have been very lucky to have the talents of Jerry Friedman, former ChartAir pilot and A&P,IA on the field. Often busy fixing the avionics in everything from Barons to G4s, Jerry is around for many of the day-to-day problems.

For our major maintenance, these good folks at Finger Lakes Flying Service, Don McCann and Alan Staff have been very helpful. These guys provide fast and professional service at a reasonable price.
