Avengers Umbrella.

t is said there are two certainties in life: death and taxes. If you live in London, a third should be added: rain. Given this fact, an umbrella is not so much an accessory, but a necessity...a constant companion. In 1868 Mr. T. Fox opened a shop in order to sell such necessities. Twelve years later, he sold the shop bearing his name to a Mr. Dixon.
Three generations later Ms. June Dixon, Samuel Dixon's granddaughter, still runs the shop that bears its founder's name. It is a name that has become synonymous with the world's finest umbrellas, sought after the world over. In 1924, an Indian Prince came to London for the Empire exhibition. Upon his arrival, he immediately procured a representative from T. Fox to not only supply him with an umbrella but also, in order to ensure the umbrella's well being, requested that a shop representative be available to roll the umbrella properly after a day of use.

With the onset of World War II, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain found he had lost his job, the peace, and his favorite umbrella manufacturer. T. Fox joined the war effort by producing nylon for parachutes. The Dixon family was quick to realize the advantages of nylon material, and became the first to introduce the material into their umbrellas. The new nylon umbrellas were sleek, sharp, and elegant which befitted a look of youth and style. It wasn't long then before President John F. Kennedy received his own Fox umbrella, with black crocodile handle, from his sister in law.

oday, the Fox name continues to draw praise and attention from around the world. Last year Prince Charles commissioned Fox to make an umbrella specifically for the Duke of Edinburgh. Now you may purchase a quintessential British umbrella from the legendary Fox workshop.

Whangee Handled Umbrella
This sleek thin umbrella became the height of fashion in the 60s, a fact made abundantly clear when the Fox umbrella appeared in the opening credits of the hit television show, The Avengers. The star of the show Patrick McNee, as well as his character John Steed, were obsessed with the Fox umbrella. In particular the whangee handled umbrellas caught the eye, and managed a slim profile on the sleek steel frame. McNee would constantly send his assistant to Fox for more umbrellas of every color imaginable. His character, John Steed, always preferred the simple elegance of black nylon.
