Dr.
Brenda Myers

Dr. Brenda W. Myers was
appointed to the position of Superintendent at
Groton
Central
School
. Dr. Myers officially began her
duties on December 12, 2005. Nancy
Thane, Board President, stated, “The
Board of Education is pleased to have attracted a superintendent with Dr. Myer’s level of experience and professional background.
She is bringing a depth and breadth of knowledge that will be extremely
valuable to us as we work together to move our district forward.”
Prior to taking the position at
Groton
, Dr. Myers was with Broome-Tioga BOCES for nearly 13 years, the last five as
Deputy Superintendent for Instruction. As
BOCES’ Deputy Superintendent for Instruction, she focused on improving the
academic performance of its 2,800 students and on meeting their diverse
learning needs. She was a driving
force behind efforts to improve student programs and performance across the
region. She also was instrumental
in the formation of the Broome-Tioga
BOCES Career & Technical High School (the only one of its kind in the
state) as well as advancements in the use of technology and data analysis by
educators throughout the region. As a member of the Commissioner’s Panel on
Mathematics (established by State Education Department Commissioner Richard P.
Mills), she has been a leader in efforts to roll out the new math standards.
Dr. Myers stated, “The
Groton
Central
School District
is a progressive, rural school committed to enhancing opportunities and to
working with the community for the benefit of all its children. I’m honored
to become a part of their team and hope to continue those strong
traditions.”
