Creating a regular dialogue between our students parents and their teachers is key. Students are expected to meet high academic standards. In order to insure that students meet these standards, teachers need the support and involvement of parents. This school year, we invite parents to get involved with their children’s education. The more involved parents are in their child’s education, the more successful teachers will be in helping their students learn the necessary skills and knowledge.

One way parents can be involved in their child’s academic progress is knowing the homework assignments that have been assigned on a daily basis.  For many students at the middle school level, doing their homework nightly has become an ingrained habit. When it comes to homework, being a self-sufficient person is one of the goals for each middle school student. If your child still needs support, visit the school's web site at www. grotoncs.org. Parents will see weekly assignments of all the core teachers in grades six, seven, and eight.

Parents can also support teachers' efforts in implementing higher academic standards by encouraging their children to read.

Finally, involved parents can be directing focus by asking the following questions to themselves:

  1. Does my child truly feel he/she is really working to his/her potential?
  2. Does my child do the extra credit work that is offered?
  3. In the past, has my child failed one or more subjects? What were the subjects? Why did he/she fail? Is this or are these areas being targeted for extra help?

Parents should have seen the class expectations from their child’s teachers. (If you did not, please ask your child and discuss these expectations with him or her.)  

Lastly, schedule a parent conference. Call the middle school counseling office at 898-5803 to set up a time to meet with your child’s teachers.  By working together we CAN and WILL help the students attending Groton Middle School to meet the rigorous academic standards.
