Groton Middle School - What we are...
A Message from the Middle School Principal
Creating a regular dialogue between our students parents and their teachers is key. Students are expected to meet high academic standards. In order to insure that students meet these standards, teachers need the support and involvement of parents. This school year, we invite parents to get involved with their childrens education. The more involved parents are in their childs education, the more successful teachers will be in helping their students learn the necessary skills and knowledge.
One way parents can be involved in their childs academic progress is knowing the homework assignments that have been assigned on a daily basis. For many students at the middle school level, doing their homework nightly has become an ingrained habit. When it comes to homework, being a self-sufficient person is one of the goals for each middle school student. If your child still needs support, visit the school's web site at www. grotoncs.org. To find the nightly homework assignments, click on middle school, click homework hotlines, and then click on the grade level. Parents will see weekly assignments of all the core teachers in grades six, seven, and eight.
Parents can also support teachers' efforts in implementing higher academic standards by encouraging their children to read.
Finally, involved parents can be directing focus by asking the following questions to themselves:
Parents should have seen the class expectations from their childs teachers. (If you did not, please ask your child and discuss these expectations with him or her.)
Lastly, schedule a parent conference. Call the middle school counseling office at 898-5803 to set up a time to meet with your childs teachers. By working together we CAN and WILL help the students attending Groton Middle School to meet the rigorous academic standards.
