SUBJECT:     SALE AND DISPOSAL OF SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPERTY

Sale of School Property

No school property shall be sold without prior approval of the Board of Education. However, the responsibility for such sales may be delegated. The net proceeds from the sale of school property shall be deposited in the General Fund.

Removal of Excess Furniture and Equipment

To ensure that excess furniture/equipment is disposed of in the most cost effective process to the School District, the following steps will be taken.

a)      The Superintendent or Administrator or Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds (SOBG) will determine whether a piece of furniture/equipment is of use or value to the school.

b)      Furniture/equipment will be listed "For Sale" for a one (1) day period in The Shopper.

c)      The furniture/equipment will be sold on a first come-first served basis or to the highest bidder with no guarantee. A fair price will be attached to the article. No returns will be accepted by the school.

d)      The furniture/equipment deemed no longer usable by the school and not sold will be held for the municipal auction, donated, or disposed of in another manner, which will be left up to the discretion of the Superintendent or Administrator or SOBG.

Textbooks

Textbooks may lose their value to the educational program because of changes in the curriculum or they contain outdated material and/or are in poor condition.

If textbooks are no longer useful or usable, the procedures for disposal shall adhere to the following order of preference:

a)            Sale of textbooks. If reasonable attempts to dispose of surplus textbooks fail to produce monetary return to the School District; then

b)            Donation to charitable organizations; or

c)            Disposal as trash.
