SUBJECT:  TRAFFIC AND PARKING REGULATIONS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY

 

        Traffic and parking regulations shall take into account the need to ensure the safety of all students, school personnel, and anyone else on school property.

 

        Traffic signs shall be posted to aid in implementing these rules and regulations.

 

        The Board authorizes the Superintendent, his/her designee, or the local Police Department, to remove and store any vehicle or trailer:

Section 1.    Parked in a parking area, driveway, or road during snowstorms, flood,

                    fires, or other public emergencies.

Section 2.    Found unattended in a fire lane.

Section 3.    Found unattended in a parking area, driveway, or road where it

                    constitutes an obstruction to traffic.

Section 4.    Found abandoned in a parking area, driveway, or road.

Section 5.    Parked in “Handicapped Parking” areas without handicapped license

                    or placard.

 

        The Board authorizes the local Police Department to issue tickets for violation of District traffic rules as appropriate under the Code of the Village of Groton, New York, Article 3, Section 187, and NYS Traffic Law 1127 including, but not limited to unsafe speed and entering “Do Not Enter” driveway or driving the wrong way on a one-way driveway, with the following fine schedule:

     Above Sections #1-4 (within one calendar year):

     1st offense            $10.00

     2nd offense          $20.00

     3rd offense           $50.00

 

     Above Section #5 (within two calendar years):

     1st offense            $50.00

     2nd offense          $100.00

 

        The owner of any vehicle ticketed or removed from district property shall be responsible for payment of all charges levied by the local Police Department and/or private towing companies.
