Could not pass up the opportunity to tell you your site is a godsend -- especially for me -- a writer. Joan Herndon

P.S. I'm going back to see if godsend is one word or two and whether it's
hyphenated or capitalized. (June 28, 1998)

As a reference librarian, I have to tell you this is one of the greatest reference tools I've ever come across. I plan to give it a big plug on the Neat New Things I Found This Week section of Where the Wild Things Are: Librarian's Guide to the Best Information on the Net, and link it in permanently on the "What is It? page on my Reference Desk. Thank you for creating such an "elgant" (thank you, it found "elegant") tool.

  Dear Mr. Parks
Your Wordsmyth Dictionary / Thesaurus is a milestone. You and your team are to be applauded congratulated, but most of all thanked. Best regards from Berlin.

Wordsmyth is fantastic! I write for a living and Wordsmyth enhances my ability to write. Whoever is funding the Wordsmyth project should first congratulate you and then give you more resources. (David L. Van Vranken, Professor)

This is the BEST dictionary I've seen !!!!! You don't even have to be that close to the correct spelling (like all the other dictionaries) to get the word you were searching for. Thanks! Frederick Shanley

This is an absolutely great site! Thanks for posting it! Willaim R. Snyder (Republican National Committee)

As a U of C MBA with a Ph.D., this is the most fun I have had in a long time. Great work! - Nina Cunningham (Strategic Planning Consultant)

The remote lookup window is an awesome tool. I do network programming and processing all day and am very sensitive to GUI convenience and annoyance. Your dictionary interface is the best of all I use.
* It's the fastest lookup on the web.
* The window is small and easily backgrounded; it doesn't crowd other apps.
* Don't have to worry about backing up to the web site if you've surfed in the meantime. It's always there when you need it.
* Great for occasional use throughout the day, like for those extra important emails.
* Spawns multiple windows so you can see more than one word simultaneously.
(Guiseppe Lovesmoke, Network Programmer)

  Dear Dr. Parks,
After a week of using your WEDT Remote, I found this facility is excellent and convenient for my academic use. I set it as "home" site so the first thing that is loaded on my screen is the Remote menu, then click minimize icon for it to rest on the desktop. Then I work as usual with my other programs. Whenever I need a dictionary/thesaurus, just click the Remote icon! Thank you for making my life easier. This would be appreciated by more people like myself. Salute to you and your team. Regards and thanks, - Xuan

"I'm an accountant in Vancouver, BC. I wasn't happy with the limited dictionary and thesaurus in Word ( and too cheap to go out and buy one) and I thought I would search for something on the net. Yours looked pretty interesting and when I checked a few words it was comprehensive as well." Nancy Castelluccio

My comment is one of gratitude. It's a great website, works really well, and I use it all the time. Links to other sites are also very useful. Thank you. John D'Hondt (Independent Author, San Francisco)

"Definitely one of the finest things I've come across in the whole WWW for a long time. I keep coming back again and again, which can't be said on a whole lot of other sites. Thank you so much." Mikko Kallio (student, Finland)

I was pretty pleased to find an English Dictionary online, but that pleasure soon turned to elation when I discovered that it was easy to use, informative and accurate. The content of this dictionary is obviously work of very high standard. Thank you. Ellen Reisinger (Australia; IT Support officer, Librarian and housewife)

  Mr. Parks:
Two thumbs up for your Wordsmyth English Dictionary & Thesaurus. I like it. It's an important contribution to the Internet. But I would not live up to my dubious reputation as a troublemaker if I could not find something wrong with it.

It took me a long time to find something wrong, but my perseverance paid off. You didn't include "wordfare," even though this resourceful word has been around for a number of years. I first saw it in the September/October 1977 issue of Mother Earth News. The editor was telling writers to "use every possible rule of civilized wordfare...that will help to focus and clarify the ideas and emotions you're putting on paper." .... Don't feel bad, though. "Wordfare" doesn't appear in other dictionaries, either.

Once again, thank you for your excellent Wordsmyth Dictionary. I've got it bookmarked, and I'm going to use it often. -- Wes Gales

Thank you so much for the wonderful job you've done. For a non-native English speaker like myself, the excellent on-line dictionary of yours is extremely helpful. HIlya Simovsky (Toshiba America MRI, inc.)

What a neat site! You have put many many hours into its development. I can't wait until everything is completed. --- Katie Hawes

What a great site! I very often have the site and minimized while I'm working. More power to the improvment of the mind! -- Jonnie W. Johnson

As you already have access to so many words my thoughts will be conveyed simply.
Brilliant!! Thank you for your efforts to keep the English language alive and flowing. (Alice O. Wheeler, Director/Consultant)

As a computer consultant, the proper use of words is crucial to my work. I am constantly looking for good resources to help me find words for the fine distinctions I need to make in writing software. Indeed, I believe that a good dictionary and thesaurus is the most important tool for a developer. I am intrigued by your project, and I would like to participate both as a software engineer and as an educator. I would also like to see your online dictionary/thesaurus include antonyms. Thanks for your efforts. Rob Williams

I think, it's probably the best dictionary-thesaurus I could find on the Internet. When an unknown word didn't exist in my conventional dictionary, I always could rely on Your magnificent Wordsmyth. The interface is very clear and comfortable. Presented information is very well structured. Examples are well chosen and very useful in understanding of the real meaning of a given word. Finally, I can't express any suggestions or improvements because I can't see any disadvantages in the Wordsmyth Dictionary Project. Piotr Kluk (engineer, postgraduate student)

Love it so far, a treat to find for expanding one's vocabulary -- keep up the great work. I will encourage my school-age children to stop by frequently! -- Dave

You're certainly to be congratulated -- and thanked -- for the work in the
production of WORDSMYTH.... I've only begun browsing, but it seems substantially faster and clearer in results than other systems I've tried. I must say that the combination of a dictionary and thesaurus makes this particularly appealing.

You may already have heard that the editors on COPYEDITING-L are in several cases chatting rather enthusiasticaly about Wordsmyth. Their first word of it came only a couple of days ago -- a medical journal editor in Vancouver had heard about it from some Canadian list and forwarded the announcement. - Ed Nelson

My friend and I spent two hours on the phone trying to rememer a word that was a synonym of the word 'saunter'. Went online to Rogets and they dont even list 'saunter' at all, but your page gave us the word we were looking for(mosey) immediately. Thanks. How come you dont have a "heart" on your page so I can save your site to my AOL Favorites? (Bill Gnoss, Accountant)

I've been till now referring to the Merriam-Webster dictionary site and i've found it reasonably helpful. But during a very fortuitous browsing of the net, I came across this site-nonpareil (with due respect to M-W). With a variety of features, like giving the exact meaning to approximate (of various degrees) meanings to giving examples ...., this site delivers what is needed. (Pankaj Joshi, Software Engineer)

I love your site! It makes it so easy to find the right words and correct the spelling errors I make. My only suggestion would be to add a rhyming section as well. Thanks again for such a great site! (John A. Lynch, truck driver)

I just wanted to take a few moments to thank you for providing to the internet community an extraordinary tool.  I wish I could tell you how many times  my team and myself have used Wordsmyth, and how much time it has saved us.  Added to that, the quality of our work has improved as well.If there was a "Pulitzer" for the Web you and your team would win hands down.  In a world where many try--you succeed!  Continue your fine work knowing that there are many of us out in the ether cheering you on.

When we first started working as a team the "guys" used to just throw text into the sitet to leave it to others to edit. When the president put me on the team that stopped. I showed them your site and we started to use it while the work was in progress. A year later, Wordsmyth is
the first window they open when the day begins. I honestly believe that for the rest of their professional lives they will use this asset! If you care to, drop by our site and have a look. I found "tufa"; she was looking for "manufacture". She was impressed, so I gave her this web address. (Shar G., Unemployed)
