Gothic Harness

German, circa 1480.
built 1990.

I did not base this on a particular harness, but designed it to capture the flavor of a good High Gothic armor. I was, therefore, able to take my favorite features (and my client's favorites) from a variety of Gothic amors, and combine them in one harness. The extra-long cuisses, working on internal leathers and sliding rivets, do away with the necessity for tassets and contribute to a tall, leggy silhouette. It is typical that the helmet and greaves are plain and unfluted - the gauntlets provide the real showpiece with many flutes and decorative filework.
