Here is a client trying on a
partially-finished cuirrasse. At this stage, it is held together by nuts and
bolts. You can still see hammer marks - those marks, as well as the mottled
color resulting from hot work on the steel, will be removed by grinding and
polishing. In this particular fitting, we found that the neckline of the
breastplate was too high; it had to be lowered about three-quarters of an
inch by opening up and flattening out the roped hem, then
re-turning and re-roping. The finished harness has a
larger hem, incorporating the excess material and is, in fact, superior. The
rest of the fitting went more smoothly - I drew lines on the steel, made
notes, snapped some pictures, and templated further pieces in cardboard.
